Personally I like 11mm dynamic
dry rope for rock climbing. It has a good hand for beginning and intermediate
climbers and belayers and moves through friction devices a little slower. The
combination can be more forgiving and add a small margin of safety in the
learning hands of student and advancing climbers. I will gladly shoulder the
extra weight for safety. I believe it is best to learn on 11mm rope prior to the
lighter and thinner diameter ropes used in lead climbing by advanced lead
climbers and double rope enthusiasts. Climbing has inherent risks associated
with it.
Please get training from a
reputable climbing instructor and know how to set anchors and tie the proper
knots in rope webbing and proper use of gear. Use of helmets is recommended as
many things namely gravity can cause rock and debris to fall. I have seen
buddies get hit and once had a sandwich sized rock glance off my helmet once.
Best investment I made and now one of my favorite pieces of gear. Our gear site
MtnOutfitter.com is a
good place to find climbing gear for use with your new climbing rope from New
England Rope.
Types of Ropes Available from New England Ropes
Traditional
rope construction consisting of three equally sized strands twisted together to
produce a very fine, durable rope. Standard designs are available in nylon,
polyester, polypropylene and specialized blends. Uses include hand and block
lines, anchor and dock lines, safety lines and numerous other applications.
Available in sizes up to 1 1/8.
Exceptionally
strong rope construction comprised of a core braid contained within an outer
braided jacket. Double braids are torque -free, have very good abrasion
resistance and offer excellent strength to weight ratios. Ropes are available in
nylon, polyester and combinations of fibers, including KevlarŽ, SpectraŽ and
TechnoraŽ that are designed to maximize the advantages inherent in different
fiber classes. Uses include heavy marine applications, winch and stringing
lines, pleasure marine ropes and numerous other applications. Available in sizes
up to 10-inch circumference.
Round single
braid rope construction designed to offer high strengths and ease of splicing.
Single braids offer significant improvement in performance over twisted and
8-strand plaited ropes. Available in nylon, polyester, SpectraŽ and a
polyester/polypropylene blend. Uses include mooring and head lines, hand and
block lines and other general purpose applications. Available in sizes up to
6-inch circumference.
Specialized
construction consisting of a parallel fiber core wrapped with a double layer of
polyester tape and covered with a braided jacket. Unlike other parallel core
ropes, this product is easily spliced using a technique similar to that used for
double braids. The parallel core rope provides very high strength and
exceptionally low elongation and is designed for applications such as stringing
lines where low stretch is a primary consideration. Available in sizes up to
1-1/8 inch diameter.
Designed for rock climbing and dynamic rope applications where an outer
sheath containing a center of continuous fibers specially designed to move
through gear and provide a good hand while force absorbing elongation protects
climbers by reducing forces generated in a fall.
